For more than 42 years, Michael S. Harper has created a body of work that has changed the way that African-American poetry is viewed. Four generations of published novelists, poets, playwrights, and professors credit his teaching, mentorship and scholarship for their beginning.
This symposium promises to be a stimulating set of conversations and performances celebrating the work and vision of Harper — just days before his 75th birthday on March 18.
Please join us for panel presentations with 18 nationally renowned poets, conversation with Michael S. Harper, poetry reading and a Friday night jazz poetry tribute with live music and featured poets.
This two-day event is offered free of charge and open to the public. Registration is required.
